On the run and badly wounded, Chess is forced to seek refuge at a remote lonely spot in the legendary South Pass on the Oregon Trail. There he meets Katelyn O’Keefe, a young pregnant Irish widow who has sought the same shelter for her dying father. They team up to survive their circumstances. For Chess it’s recovering from the gunshot wound and dodging the real murderer gunning for him. Kate must deal with the loss of her father and the child that’s coming prematurely. Complications send Chess and Kate to seek help in delivering the baby, ending up in the hands of the Cheyenne. Ultimately, the innocent and the guilty must confront one another, and the odds are seemingly grim for Chess Cates, the Accidental Outlaw.
